The Must-Have Checklist for Organising a Child's Party
Organising a child's party can be stressful but it doesn't need to be. Here's a checklist of must-have items and considerations to help you organise a successful and memorable event.
-
If you're so inclined, choose a theme based on your child's interests (e.g., superheroes, princesses, animals, sports, etc.).
-
Select a date and time that works best for the majority of guests and decide on how long you'd like the party to go on for. 2-3 hours for younger children is usually just about enough time for them to have fun.
-
Prepare a list of friends and classmates your child wants to invite. If your child prefers a small gathering with family and friends, let them keep to that. Don't feel as though you have to invite the whole class if you have space and budget limitations.
-
Keeping in mind the age of the children and the activities you have planned, choose a venue. Is the party going to be at home or at an external venue (e.g., park, community centre, indoor play area. Wherever you decide, have a backup plan in case of bad weather.
-
Design and send out invitations well in advance, including all the essential details like the theme, date, time, venue, RSVP information, and any special instructions.
-
Plan and purchase the party supplies and decorations based on the chosen theme. Balloons, banners, tablecloths, and matching cups and napkins are great but aren't always necessary if you have the party at home but will probably be necessary if held at an outside venue.
-
Decide on a kid-friendly menu with easy-to-eat foods. Include snacks, finger foods, drinks, and a birthday cake or cupcakes. If the children are young and their parents stay with them, be prepared to offer them refreshments too.
-
Together with your child, plan age-appropriate games and activities or perhaps hire a professional entertainer.
-
If you're so inclined, prepare party favours and goody bags for the guests, remembering to keep to your budget.
-
On the day, ensure the party venue is safe and child-proofed, especially if it is near a pool. Have first aid supplies readily available should anything happen to a guest and have contact numbers for all the parents should a child be left in your care during the party.
-
A few days before the party, reach out to guests who haven't responded to the invitations and double-check that you have all your party supplies.
Remember, every child's party is unique, so adapt this checklist to suit your specific needs. Have fun and enjoy celebrating your child's special day!
