Our Story

UCAN began prior to 2008, at a time when bespoke, custom-installed cabinetry was the only real option for South African homeowners. As people started looking for the same durability without the wait or the price of a custom installer, we saw the opportunity to pioneer high-quality, self-fit flatpack furniture in South Africa.

Over three decades we've narrowed and sharpened that focus. Where we once concentrated on fully customisable kitchen cupboards, today it's built around ready-to-go packages — our ready-designed kitchen range, standard units and modular range — alongside built-in bedroom cupboards, storage organisers and hardware. Everything is available directly at ucandoit.co.za and shipped flat-packed with everything you need to install it yourself.

“Flatpack” shouldn't mean flimsy. Every UCAN product is manufactured at our own 2,500m² facility in New Germany — ISO 9001-certified and a registered Proudly South African manufacturer — then cut and drilled on CNC machinery so panels and hardware line up the way they're supposed to.

Every visible edge is fully sealed, to the same standard you'd get from a high-end, fully-installed kitchen brand. Real Value, Explained Simply

Our factory manufactures at real scale — not just for our own range — so we buy materials and hardware in volume and pass those savings on to you. Our best-selling 4-Door Built-in Cupboard is a good example: 14 door finishes, 200cm wide × 210cm high × 50cm deep, and every fitting you need for assembly included.

It has the same edge-sealed board, CNC precision and manufacturer's warranty as everything else we build, at a fraction of what a custom-built equivalent costs. Most of what we sell is made to order rather than pulled off a warehouse shelf. That's how we keep the range wide and the price down, and it means what arrives at your door is freshly made.

Do you deliver nationwide?

Yes — straight to your door anywhere in South Africa, with a 7–14 working day delivery promise. Most items are made to order rather than kept in warehouse stock, which is why what arrives is freshly made.

 

Is UCAN cheaper than a custom-built kitchen or cupboard?

Yes — by manufacturing locally and buying hardware directly, we cut out the custom-installer markup while using the same edge-sealed board and CNC precision.

 

Do I need DIY experience to assemble UCAN furniture?

Less than you'd think. For our bigger pieces, it's more about an extra pair of hands than DIY skill. A cupboard like our 4-Door Built-in comes pre-drilled with step-by-step instructions; the main thing you'll need is a friend to help lift and hold the heavier panels. No bodybuilder or seasoned DIYer required, just two people and a bit of strength.

For kitchens, the units use the same easy pre-drilled cam-and-dowel fittings and come with full assembly instructions. What varies is the finishing. Plumbing in a sink, wiring a stove, or fitting cupboards against a wall that isn't perfectly straight can take more effort depending on your space.
