Top 5 tips to Organise your Rented Space
Rented space issues are fairly universal so read on for UCAN's top five tips to organising your rented space.
1. Kitchen clean-up
Rented spaces often have small sinks so it makes washing dishes a real challenge. Maximise your space with dish racks that do double duty i.e. holds plates, is double-layered and also includes a cutlery drainer. It may also help to use a dish rack that sits in your sink, especially for bachelor pads where very little needs to be washed. Other tiered organisers are also going to maximise the counter space in your kitchen to store spices, plates and more.
2. Laundry sorted
One of my pet hates about renting is that there isn’t enough space to dry laundry. A retractable line over the bath or in the bathroom is a great way to organise laundry care. If you aren’t allowed to drill or there isn’t a facility in the home, then a fold-out dryer is your next best bet.
3. Free standing
You want to have functional items in your rented space but you also want to be able to take those items when you leave. Consider buying free-standing items such as towel stands, clothes rails and shoe racks if you are in need of storage or hanging space.
4. Shelving
If free-standing items are just not going to offer enough space for you and cupboards really aren’t providing the storage space you need, shelving may be required. Shelving can help you organise any space perfectly, are fairly adjustable, and the best part, is that shelving keeps things off the floor. Here’s to hoping that you landlord won’t mind you putting it up!
5. Get hooked on hooks
A cluttered floor makes a space feel very small. Use hooks to organise your things in your rented space as it is a very cost-effective solution. The hooks you use can be over-door hooks, self-adhesive hooks or ones that you need to drill. Whichever you use, you are guaranteed to make space very quickly this way.
